At 8:30 a.m.We will pick you up at your meeting point in Marrakech to begin a fascinating route 8 days and 7 nights from Marrakech for students to the Sahara Desert towards the southeast of Morocco, venturing into mountain landscapes, historic kasbahs and valleys full of contrasts. Our first great journey will be through the mountains of High Atlascrossing the impressive port of Tizi nTichka (2,260 m), the highest road pass in North Africa. Its name in Tamazight means “difficult mountain pass,” and from here we will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of rugged mountains, deep valleys, and small Berber villages. We will make several stops to photograph and admire the natural beauty of the surroundings. During the journey we will visit a Women's argan oil cooperativewhere we will learn about the traditional production process and the many properties of this precious product, used both in gastronomy and in natural cosmetics. We will continue south along a particularly scenic secondary road, surrounded by Berber villages and rural landscapes. At midday we will arrive at the legendary ksar of Aït Ben Haddoudeclared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. You will have time for lunch and to explore its spectacular kasbah, the setting for numerous international film productions such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, The Mummy, game of Thrones and many more. Strolling through its adobe alleyways is like stepping back in time. After the visit, we will head to Ouarzazate, known as “the gateway to the desert” and the city of cinema. Here you'll find the famous film studios (admission approximately €8 per person, guided tour in French or Spanish). We will also make a stop at the Kasbah of Taourirt (entrance €5, optional guide €10), one of the most important fortresses in southern Morocco. We will continue our route through the oasis of Skoura, part of the famous “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs”, a landscape dotted with palm groves and ancient mud fortresses. Later we will stop at the Valley of the RosesIt is famous for its annual festival held during the first weeks of May. Outside of that season, you can visit local cooperatives that produce rose-derived products, such as rose water and natural cosmetics. Finally, we will arrive at the spectacular Dades ValleyWe will be staying in a hotel with panoramic views of the valley. If you wish, you can take a leisurely stroll around the area, descending into the valley to a small nearby waterfall, enjoying the tranquility and natural beauty of the surroundings before dinner. We will undertake a scenic stop to admire and photograph the landscapes of the valley and its imposing Todra Gorges, famous for their vertical walls that narrow as you advance. We will continue to go through traditional Berber villages, like Tinjdad, until reaching Malaab, where we will visit a local shop run by Berber women. There you will be able to dress in traditional clothingYou can pose for photos in traditional Berber costumes with the Berber flag, and purchase souvenirs, desert turbans, or local crafts. This stop offers an authentic and intimate immersion in Berber culture. Our route will continue towards Touroug, where we will carry out a lunch stop and replenish our energy. Later on, we will get to Erfoud, known for its artisanal production of marbles and fossils. If time permits, a short visit can be made to discover this interesting local work. Finally, we will begin to feel the air of desert as we approach the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. We'll leave the vehicle here to get on the camels (8x8) and enjoy a sunset stroll Through the golden dunes, a spectacle of light and color transforms the landscape into a magical setting. As night falls, we will arrive at tent camp in the desert, where a traditional Berber dinner and a live music performance around the bonfire. The experience of sleeping under a spectacular starry skySurrounded by absolute silence and the immensity of the desert, this night will be unforgettable. We will get up early to contemplate the sunrise from the top of a dunefollowed by breakfast. You will have the option to practice sandboard in the Erg Chebbi dunes. Afterwards, we will return by camel or 4x4 to the point where our driver is waiting for us, continuing the route around the Merzouga desert. If you wish, you can also make a quad bike or buggy excursion through the Erg Chebbi dunes. (This service is NOT included in the price: 1 hour single quad €40, double quad €60, double buggy €120, with guide and fuel included.) Our 4x4 route will continue towards the desert nomadswhere we will enjoy a traditional tea. A minimum tip of €5 is recommended. Afterwards, we will visit the abandoned village of Mifiswhere you can stroll and take photos; we'll pick you up at the exit. This town was once an important mining center, abandoned when extraction ceased to be profitable. From a high point you'll get some spectacular panoramic viewsAnd you'll be able to see open-pit mines with shafts and trenches. Workers are still extracting lead and kohl from shafts up to 50 meters deep. We will continue towards Khamlia, home of the Gnawamusicians of sub-Saharan origin. There you will enjoy traditional music and dance While we enjoy a cup of tea (the well-known "Berber whisky" with mint). You can buy a CD of their music for €10 or leave a minimum tip of €5. We will continue towards Taouz and from there, towards the village of OuzinaWe'll have lunch at a Berber family's home. The menu includes salad or noodles, Berber pizza, and welcome tea. After lunch, you'll have time to relax until sunset. Optionally, you can make a henna tattoo with a local specialist (tipping is recommended). You can also take a walk through the village and its oasis to experience daily life in this part of the desert. In the afternoon, we will arrive at Hotel 2 km from the villagewhere we'll leave our luggage. You'll have several options to enjoy the sunset: Go on foot to the Erg Ouzina dunes. Climb a mountain behind the hotel (45 min uphill and 40 min downhill) to contemplate a sunset in a wild and virgin desert, in total silence. Enjoy the sunset from the hotel pool, which features a panoramic terrace overlooking the Ouzina desert. We will spend the night in hotel in the Ouzina desert, with dinner and breakfast included, and free time to relax by the outdoor pool.
We will wake up to enjoy a a leisurely breakfast at the hotel before embarking on the route towards Nkob. On our way, we will make a stop at Rissani, one of the oldest cities in Morocco, historical capital of the Alaouite dynasty and former residence of the sultans. If your visit coincides with one of the market days (Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday), you can experience the lively atmosphere of the soukIt is also open on other days, although with less activity. For approximately one hourWe will take a walking tour of the souk, where you can discover: Local spices and dates from the region. Traditional crafts and typical jewelry. Animals and market products. As we leave the village, we'll stop to take a picture of the famous “Gateway to the Desert”before continuing through landscapes Pre-desert, arid and spectaculardotted with small towns that showcase local architecture and lifestyle. Our next stop will be Alnifwhere we will enjoy the lunch before continuing towards Nkob. We will arrive at Nkob village, located between the Ziz Valley and the Drâa valley, known as the “city of 45 kasbahs”. Nkob is surrounded by two palm-filled oases and offers an environment historic and picturesquewith its narrow, labyrinthine streets. The colors at sunset over its kasbahs and palm trees are truly spectacular. After the breakfastWe will leave our hotel in Nkob and we will head towards the Draa Valley, one of the most emblematic valleys in southern Morocco. This valley, traversed by the Draa RiverThe longest in the country, it offers a unique landscape of Palm groves, kasbahs and traditional villages that stretch between the mountains and the desert. We will undertake a scenic stop to contemplate the beauty of the valley, take photographs and enjoy the contrast between the green of the oases and the ochre tones of the surroundings. Next, we will cross the Anti-Atlascrossing the port of Ait Saouen (approximately 1,660 m altitude), with breathtaking views of mountains and valleys that reflect Morocco's geographical diversity. During this trek, you'll appreciate the changing landscapes, from semi-desert areas to rock formations and Berber villages nestled on the hillsides. We will make a brief stop in Ouarzazate, the “gateway to the desert”, before embarking on the crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass.
