Tour Plan

Day 1 Marrakech – High Atlas – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Anti Atlas – Agdz – Draa Valley – Zagora (350 km)

At 08:00 h We will pick you up at your accommodation in Marrakech (or at the agreed meeting point) to begin this 3-day excursion from Marrakech to the southeast Erg Chegaga desert of Morocco. We will head towards the High Atlas Mountainscrossing the mountain pass Tizi n'Tichka (2,260 m)The highest pass in North Africa. In Tamazight, its name means "difficult mountain pass." During the journey, we will make several stops to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views and photograph the Berber valleys and villages. We will continue along the road of Ounila Valley, with its picturesque traditional villages, until reaching the Ksar de Aït Ben Haddoudeclared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Here we will pause for lunch and visit its famous kasbah, the setting for international films such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, The Mummy, Game of Thrones and The Kingdom of Heaven. Then we will continue towards OuarzazateKnown as the “Gateway to the Desert” and famous for its film studios (optional entry: €8/person). If you prefer not to go inside, you can take photos from the outside. It will also be possible to visit the Kasbah of Taourirt (entrance: €2 + optional local guide approx. €10), although the panoramic views already reveal much of its beauty. The route will continue along the Anti-Atlas Mountains, crossing the port of Ait Saouen (1,660 m)until reaching the town of Agdzwhere we will enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Draa Valley. From there we will continue along the impressive palm grove, with a length of over 100 km, until reaching Zagorawhere we will spend the night. Day 2 Zagora – Tamegroute – Tinfou Dunes – Tagounite – M'hamid Palm Grove – Sacred Oasis – Erg Chegaga Desert – Camel Trek – Overnight in the Erg Chegaga Desert (180 km)

After the breakfast, about the 9:30 a.m., we will begin our route towards the Erg Chegaga desert. The first stop will be in Tamegroute, a town famous in Morocco for its glazed ceramic in jade green tones. Since the 17th century, this craft has been the driving force of its economy, and today eleven families They keep this tradition alive. We will visit the village and its typical products, discovering the charm of its local culture. We will continue towards the Tinfou dunes, some small white sand dunes which, although more modest than those of Chegaga, offer a first contact with the desert. From the highest dune you can contemplate the authentic landscape of Stony Sahara. We will continue along the route passing through Tagounite until reaching M'hamid palm grove, the entry point into the deep desert. From there we will head towards Chegaga, crossing areas of small dunes, hamadas (stony deserts) and, with a bit of luck, we'll find some fossil. Before arriving, we will make a stop at the Sacred OasisA place of great beauty surrounded by palm trees and with a year-round flowing stream. Here, nomads bring their flocks to drink. It will be the perfect place to enjoy a picnic under the shade of the palm trees and perhaps have an encounter with someone nomadic family willing to share conversation and a glass of tea. After crossing several oueds, we will arrive at the majestic Erg Chegaga desert, a sea of ​​sand with dunes up to 300 meters high and 40 km in length, which will impress anyone. Day 3 Erg Chegaga – Iriki Lake – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – High Atlas – Marrakech (420 km)

We will get up early to contemplate the sunrise from a dune near the campA magical experience that marks the start of the day in the desert. After the breakfast, we will begin the return trip to Marrakech along the old track of Paris-Dakar Rally, crossing the Iriki dry lake. At certain times of the year, this lake can contain water and is surrounded by dune ridges, creating a spectacular scenery. We will arrive at Foum Zguid, where we will take the paved road towards the village of TaznakhtLocated at an altitude of 1,405 meters and with an approximate population of 7,280 inhabitants, this place is well known for its Berber carpet craftsmanshipwhich you can admire and, if you wish, acquire. We will continue through the High Atlas Mountains and we will cross the mountain pass again Tizi n'Tichka, the highest pass in North Africa with 2,260 meters altitude. En route we will visit a Women's argan oil cooperativewhere we will learn about the artisanal production process and the numerous properties of argan for the health and body care.
